    This year marks the 25th anniversary of the off-road-savvy Toyota 4Runner. We were able to drive a number of incarnations of the new vehicle today at Toyota's press launch. We'll have a more in-depth story to follow, but here are a few details. Toyota has gone away from the V8 engine on the 4Runner, deciding to instead focus on an improved 4-liter V6 motor that produces 270 horsepower with 278 ft-lb of torque. This is 34 more hp than the previous V6 and 10 more than the previous V8. The MPG rating is 16 city and 21 highway for the 4x4 version, and 17 city and 23 highway for the two-wheel-drive version.

    There will also be a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder model available, which appears to be an option for buyers looking to have a lower purchase price since the mileage benefits are not great.  The motor produces 157 horsepower and offers fuel economy of 18 city, 23 highway.

    There are a few different options available, including a new Trail version (shown right) that has a number of off-road-specific features. There's also the SR5 version and the Limited, which features 20-inch wheels instead of the small 17-inch, more-off-road-ready tires on the Trail and SR5 models.
