MURIETTA, CA – August 1, 2009: Premier Racing Products (PRP Seats) is excited to announce the newest addition to their product line, the “New Jeep Style Seat.” Knowing that “New Jeep Style Seat” is a horrible name for a product, PRP is opening a contest to name this seat with the grand prize winner receiving a free set of “New Jeep Style Seats.”
The new seat is 35” tall and 22” wide, with a 5”-thick square headrest which is new for PRP. Through market research, PRP has found this type of headrest gives the most comfort and support for riders not wearing helmets, perfect for the daily driver. They lowered the sides of the seat to make it easy to slide in and out of the vehicle. Although it is called a “New Jeep Style Seat,” it is also perfect for buggies, trucks or any off-road machine. PRP’s new design is the first of its kind in the off-road sector.
“Cheryl and I are both excited about the future of PRP. The new Jeep line of seats should set us apart from every other suspension seat company,” said Griff Hamilton, PRP co-owner. Look for a recliner seat to also be released this month.
PRP Seats would like your help in naming the “New Jeep Style Seat.”

Off-Road.com will be passing this link along to PRP, and they'll be monitoring the entries.

Its been a year or so since my last BITD race. Jason Wade was gracious enough to ask me to race with him on his new desert 07 Honda 450r built by David Scott, last years BITD champion.Having riden the bike briefly its safe to say i know how Dave won the championship last year. The Elka suspension coupled with the Roll Design A Arms, feels like you could hit anything. The true test, the faster you go the smoother it gets! JB Wade Custom Homes and Independent Bank of Austin http://www.ibankaustin.com/ are sponsoring this effort. We also have or pit crew Martin Choquette, Dennis Milner from Team Guilty and also Rusty Cronchy will be assisting us in getting to the finish line. Maxxis tires fitted with Tire Balls are going to keep us going without any flats and the fueling will be handled by IMS and their quick filll/dry break system. Eric Pealstrom and AC Racing have built our skid plates and are ready to handle just about any rock Parker has to offer. Spot Messaging will be the tracking unit Jason and I will be carrying on the bike. You can track us live on the web from this link.
Race day is Saturday Jan 10th and the race starts at about 7am AZ time. Hopefully I get some good video and stills to share with everybody. Wish us luck and say a prayer for all the racers to have a safe race.

Question: Can you help me choose a tire combo size for my Jeep? I have a 2009 Jeep JK. I want to know what’s the biggest size tires I can put on without lifting my Jeep. I want to keep my warranty for awhile longer. Thanks.
TireGuy Says:
This is a common question, and a very difficult one to answer directly with all the different possibilities.
Manufacturers of vehicles with off-road capability typically design the vehicles with just enough clearance to allow the full range of articulation and steering with the OE size tires and ensure you won't have any rubbing or interference. For these reasons, I cannot directly recommend a size larger than stock.
Another factor to consider is what wheels you are running. The wheel width and backspacing affect the tire location on the vehicle. The higher the backspacing, the more the wheel is 'in' toward the center of the vehicle, while lower backspacing numbers push the wheel out. A quick Internet search can help you find the backspacing of your OE wheels for the particular JK trim level and package you have.
I have heard of people running larger-than-stock tires on their JK without a lift, but you must be very careful to avoid rubbing or binding. On the JK, there is a particularly sharp seam at the back of the front wheel opening, and you need to avoid contact there with any rubbing tires. One of your best bets is to talk with some other local Jeepers or find a local club to provide you first-hand experience of the different options available. The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar is offered in LT255/75R17, which is the stock size for the JK Rubicon. There are also many other offerings that range from slightly larger to even a 42X14.50R17 "monster size," if the decision is made to lift the Jeep.
Keep an eye on the Score website. http://www.score-international.com/ In the next few days there should be an announcement for the ATV class. Its been in the works for a while now with Sal Fish and Bill Savage. I dont mean to be a tease but until its 100% official, I dont want to say anything but "stay tuned". Its a wonderful thing for the ATV`s, ATV manufacturers and after market companies that support ATV`s. Hopefully, it should be in effect for the Baja 1000. Fingers crossed......
Its true! The newly formed pro class in the Score desert racing series has these two ATV`s going at it for the victory at this years Score San Felipe 250 in Baja Norte Mexico. Jason Wade`s Can AM 800cc Renegade is a purpose built quad just for desert racing. Originally built by Epic Racing a few years ago, this quad has some very unique features. Fines Double Racing`s Reid Rutherford and team on their Arctic Thundercat is not going to let Jason get off easy. While both are friends this is fierce competition and
bragging rights for Can Am or Arctic Cat. Desert racing has never really had Utility quads racing in their midst. Josh Fredericks rode the other Epic Renegade a few years ago at the Baja 1000 and did well. This bike was at that very same race. The ArcticCat raced last years Baja 1000. This should be an epic battle between 2 very large machines. The 1000 CC Arctic Thundercat has the horsepower advantage here. Correction, Honda did run a pair of Honda Ranchers a few years ago in the pro class at the Baja 1000. They won! Doug Eichner road one and so did the late Pancho Castro (rest in peace brother). Wayne Moridian from PEP did the shocks on them.
With a racer in the family, we re-fresh and re-sell our race quads several times in a season. The bike is barely used so the recreational buyer is always getting a heckuva deal. Win - Win.
However, a recent deal struck a nerve -
Got a call from a guy on an ad we had placed, and he was all excited to buy the hottest thing he could get his hands on. We drive 5 hours, he drives 2 1/2 to meet in the "middle" (though since he's an hour and a half LATE, who knows what he'd been doing).
Eventually he meets us to pay for it and take it home. First warning sign was that the guy arrived wearing white sweats and loafers. Okay...
His buddies back home have apparently assured him what he "needs" to buy is the fastest, bestest he can get, oh yeah, yeah!
So this guy - that has apparently NEVER BEEN ON AN ATV - takes off with a hopped-up YFZ450. Generally we spend some time going through the upgrades on the bike so the buyer appreciates what he's getting, how to use and maintain it. Set up for varying conditions. He was most excited about the new decal kit that came with it. This guy, all we could do is suggest he take the twist throttle off immediately and don't take it for a test-drive through his paved neighborhood when he unloads it, wearing loafers...
He will likely be a statistic within weeks - one more number that someone somewhere can use to say "See! Look how dangerous ATVs are!"
Somewhere back in Portland there are some idiots that this guy calls "friends." If they gave a damn about him, or knew what THEY were talking about, they would have advised he start out with a stock Suzuki Z400 or similar. With good resale value, he would have lost nothing after a season or two LEARNING TO RIDE. Put $4k into the bike and $500 into good riding gear, head to toe.
And maybe tennis shoes and jeans to wear when you are loading it into your minivan, dude!
This weekend is the 7th round of the ATV World Off-Road Championship series at Honey Lake MX in Milford, CA. I'm really excited to get back to the racing that I've done for a long time.
Been a while since I've raced off-road instead of ATV MX. In January I competed in the BITD Parker 250, but I didn't even get to run all of what I was supposed to.
Some of you might know that I've won 4 WORCS National Championships, one of them in Pro-Am, and a lot of people have been looking forward to me racing in the Pro class to see how I do. I've got a brand new Can-Am quad, and an entirely new training regime, so I'm looking forward to my Pro debut.
After this weekend, I'll let you know how the racing went. Pro main kicks off at noon on Sunday.
Many of you should know by now that while going to school in Vegas I'm living in the dorms. As many of you can possibly imagine, that makes it a tad bit tough when I am a professional racer. A trailer in storage 10 miles from my dorm is all I have to work with. 2 quads, a pit bike, tubs with parts, and 4 or 5 sets of tires nearly fill my trailer to the brim. So, on a week like this right before the first WORCS race of the season, and with a brand new quad, I am extremely busy with work to do.
This is the unloading I have to do in order to work on my quads. One rolled out and to the side, stuff stacked on it, parts behind it, and you can see the stacks of tires inside the trailer. I got lucky on this day and the spots beside happened to be vacant for the day so you can see my truck parked next to the trailer. If you could see the other side of the trailer you would see a few more random things on the ground and out of the way.
This young man races quads in Score and has for a few years. Very very nice man and he need the help of the offroad nation in a bad way. If anybody has any info on his whereabouts, please contact authorities and provide any info you can. This is a very tragic situation and his family needs our prayers. Hang in there Rob...He is know as Rob U on some message board in the ATV/offroad community.

TIJUANA – Six men were shot to death and a seventh was wounded Monday afternoon when gunmen stormed a produce warehouse near the Otay Mesa border crossing. The identities of the victims were not released, but they worked at the business, said Salvador Ortiz of the Baja California Attorney General's Office.
From today's U-T
More killings bring weekend's toll to 10
The business, called Ricardo Ulloa Z., is in a busy industrial neighborhood just west of the port of entry. Ricardo Ulloa is listed as the owner of the business and also of Mexbros Fruit Inc. across the border in San Diego.
Investigators said more than 100 spent casings from assault rifles were found inside the warehouse. The victims were apparently shot as they huddled near a desk. The floor was stained with blood when mourners stepped inside two hours later, sobbing quietly or staring in disbelief.
A municipal police officer said gunmen had come to kidnap the owner's son, but that could not be confirmed with the Attorney General's Office.
The attorney general also reported Monday the deaths of three men who were found inside a Chevrolet Trailblazer in an eastern Tijuana neighborhood.
Tijuana has experienced an unprecedented number of killings in the past month as drug gangs battle each other and the government. Kidnappings also have set the city on edge.
The son they are talking about is ROBERT ULLOA, hes a family member of rdc ROB U and has been missing since the 3rd. Robert is a standup guy trying to run a legit business in tj and has been racing score on quads for years. our prayers to his safe return and for his family

Many of you might know Blair Morgan from either dirtbike racing or as a very succesfull snowmobile racer. Unfortunately Blair crashed in practice at Montreal Supercross this weekend. I don't want to post any exact details about his injury until something official is released. Apparently he has already went under surgery on his spinal cord and has lost a lot of feeling.

Just wondering about something, i figured i'd ask on here before i wasted 200 bucks at a rip-off mechanics shop. i just put on a new 6 inch lift by myself, I had a 3 inch on it when i started so i just got new shocks, leaf springs, a trac bar, and brake lines. I had to get leaf springs rather than a block because the old ones were sagging, and on the rear right side the thing was worse than flat, about 2 inches lower than the other side. i thought new leaf springs would equal out both sides on the back, but after the lift i still have the same problem, the right rear side is a lot lower than the left rear side. I can't think of anything but maybe a bent frame or somthing and i need to resolve the problem before i put on my new tires because that tire wears down really fast because of it. If anyone has any ideas at all, please let me know, thanks.
I must start today’s post by recognizing the 9/11 anniversary, the men and women that lost their lives and the heroes that saved so many – you will not be forgotten.
Well, welcome to another Friday. Tommy tried to drum up some takers this morning for a run to Itz a Deli, but no one was in the mood. However, being the lucky girl that I am, Fridays always mean that my Dad comes by the shop to take me out to lunch. Am I spoiled or what?! We splurged today and indulged in In-and-Out…yum! But before my decadent double-double, I had some work to do on the Unlimited 2.
The truck is going to the Sand Sports Show in Costa Mesa next weekend and it needs to look sparkling clean, so the decals came out and I got a new body done for it. I ended up with the job of decaling the trucks back in ’05 not because I’m good at it, but because I don’t suck badly enough at it to give the job to someone else. Every time I think I’ve got the hang of the torch and scrapers and masking tape, I burn a hole in a decal, leave too many bubbles under another or just get one completely crooked. It’s a humbling experience, and I’m ever so grateful that at 80 mph with mud caked on it, it’s really hard to tell when I mess up. So promise me that if you’re at the show this weekend, you won’t point out the “Sharpie fix” I did on one of the doors! Just smile and pretend like it’s our little secret.
Being out in the shop for most of the day instead of in the office always brings me back to a brilliant idea we’ve discussed but never implemented: American Flyer Idol. The guys really should put a compilation CD together. Hey…is that blood coming from my ears?
I spoke to Ty Zimmerman of Motoworks this morning regarding Dillon (Ty is the team manager & father of Pro-AM rider- Dilon Zimmerman
Bakersfield, Ca- 6/16/09: Dillon Zimmerman the #49 in WORCS ATV Pro-AM was involved in a horrible accident at Speedworld this past weekend at Rnd #4 of the ITP Quadcross series. Dillon pretty much suffered all major breaks to his right side of the upper body.
"Dillon had a bad one for sure. He broke all 9+ ribs, scapula, completely deflated & collapsed his lung and suffered major damage to his right kidney. He is still in ICU and here in Phoenix and we will know more later on his situation this week. He had some internal bleeding as well and they are trying to control that at this time with blood transfusions. He is short breathing, so they will be doing an epidermal which will freeze around the lung which will allow him to breathe more instead of taking these short breaths. We made it. I'm in the media room for the Baja 1000, which will be my home base tomorrow and the following day. BFGoodrich and VW put together a killer media room and hospitality area. Just down the street, there's even a restaurant that BFGoodrich, VW and Red Bull put together for media and racers (see right). I mean talk about doing it right! As part of the media trying to bring stuff to everybody back home, I really appreciate when our job is made easier to provide news and updates to our readers. I'm not talking about getting pampered (but feeding us is nice), but some race organizations don't do the media any favors, which kind of stinks when we're simply trying to give their races exposure to our readership. So it's nice when companies and organizations go the extra mile.
Anyway, racing kicks off tomorrow morning. I'll be set up here in the media room, which has high-speed Internet connection, race updates and race tracking. I'm stoked because this means I should be able to keep you all in the loop during the race. I'll be posting updates as soon as I get them on my blog, so stay tuned if you want to follow the race while it's happening. Stay tuned.
Many wonder just how safe Baja is these days and it is a concern for many coming down to Baja. While the security situation has definitely become worse in Tijuana, violence is usually limited to the drug trade and those involved in it. However anyone should still practice common sense when traveling in Baja and especially around border areas. Remember you are in a third world country and it is definitely not America. Do not travel late at night, do not travel alone and try to travel in convoys with multiple people in each car. While steps like this might seem overly cautious, the less you make yourself a target the less likely you are to be one.
We had some interesting experiences this year crossing the border. To cross we went through the Otay Mesa crossing to meet our security detail. Consisting of two vehicles and six armed off-duty policemen, our personal security team was there to guide us all the way to our hotel and then watch over all of our vehicles for the rest of the time in Baja. Making our way through Tijuana our team became separated by stop lights and some took a wrong turn. We pulled over our convoy on the side of the road to wait for the rest of the team to find us. Within five minutes a police van and car pulled up with their lights on. Eight heavily armed police with assault weapons, full body armor, goggles and helmets looking just like a SWAT team rapidly approached our convoy. Our security team quickly intervened and told them what we were doing. After that the police were friendly and left.
After making it through Tijuana we stopped after the first toll booth on the road to Ensenada to let a couple others catch up. Within minutes two police cars pulled up and four officers (each with an assault weapon) got out and approached the lead car. Again our security team intervened and the officers were friendly and left.
Now who knows exactly what the intentions of the police officers were. They could have been merely stopping by to check on us and see what the problem was. However down here it can be difficult to tell who the bad and good guys are. Just because they have a badge doesn’t mean they are necessarily there to help out. There is more police though than I have ever seen and they are more heavily-armed than I have ever seen. It is easy to see they mean business and hopefully that business is keeping us safe.

Blair Morgan Tragedy
Many of you might know Blair Morgan from either dirtbike racing or as a very succesfull snowmobile racer. Unfortunately Blair crashed in practice at Montreal Supercross this weekend. I don't want to post any exact details about his injury until something official is released. Apparently he has already went under surgery on his spinal cord and has lost a lot of feeling.
The Off-Road.Com crew sends their prayers and best wishes to this amazing rider and his family.
Got Another Question

Decals & Double-Doubles
Dillon Zimmerman involved in s
Please keep my boy in your prayers as this is a difficult time for the family and team" Ty Zimmerman of Motoworks

Ensenada - Ready for the 1000
Stay tuned.
Baja Security
