Now this is actually kinda funny. Shouldn't laugh, but I had to. The Ford Factory Team that our editor Craig Perronne is living the Baja 1000 week with, hit the border with full security detail. A caravan of six vehicles, including six off-duty police. Armed.
According to Craig's first Blog report, they did have some trouble at the border and once in Ensenada, so he was glad they DID have the security detail with them.
However, at SCORE check-in headquarters, it was one of the Security vehicles that got broken into, and personal items (ID, credit cards and cell phones) stolen from!
I guess if I had to choose having a team guarding my body or guarding my truck, I'd bring them all with me personally, every where we went. But - you didn't leave ONE person out with the tens of thousands of dollars of vehicles and equipment?
Oh, this is going to be a really entertaining week. Can't wait to hear about Scott and Josh's adventures with the VW team!
The finish line is also a place that you need to be very careful at. Many people get caught up in the excitement

369 Total entries from 39 U.S. States, 24 countries
Ready for Friday’s start of 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000
NOTE: Following late registration Wednesday Thursday, here is the final pre-race entry list for the 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, which starts Friday morning and is being held in Ensenada, Mexico. A total of 369 entries from 39 U.S. States and 24 countries will be competing in 28 Pro and 7 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.
Motorcycles and ATVs will start the technically challenging 631.35-mile course first at 6:30 a.m. (PST). The cars and trucks will start three hours after the last Sportsman Motorcycle sidecar, at approximately 10:45 a.m. (PST).
With vehicles starting one every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race, the fastest vehicles are expected to cover the course in approximately 13 hours. The course will officially remain open for 31 hours, closing in the early evening on Saturday.

Robby Bell/Kenda
I would like to thank SCORE and the state of Baja California
Robby: This is going to be my fourth Baja 100 and I’ve never seen such a wide variety of terrain. I’m really anxious to see how the race plays out. The course is going to be demanding and I think it’s going to be a really good race.
Kendall: SCORE laid out a shorter course but it’s one of the best courses I’ve ridden. I have the pleasure of riding with these two great riders and tomorrow would be three wins for me, two for Robby and a ton for Johnny.
Cameron Steele, No. 16, SCORE Trophy-Tru
Scott Steinberge
Mike: I’ve been fortunate enough to win the 1000 twice overall on a motorcycle
Brendan Gaughan, No. 123, Class 1 – I’ve done a lot of the course in the past, probably since I was five years old. It hasn’t changed much; it’s just gotten rougher. This is the first time in about eight years that I’ve pre-run. Every time I’ve raced, I’ve come from another race, I show up, I have no GPS and we jump; in and race it like old times. We’re excited this year.
We have just watched the first of the class 22 motorcycle riders take off the starting line, led by rider number 2x Grant Steele. He will have the physical lead on the road early in the race. He will lead a class of 16 riders in class 22, followed by 7 in class 21.
The focus mainly is on whether or not team 1x Robby Bell, Kendall Norman and Johnny Campbell will come through and win a RECORD 11th BAJA 1000 motorcycle victory for Johnny Campbell today. He's currently tied with Larry Roessler on the all time list, with 10 class wins each. Today could be the day for Campbell to break through and make Baja history.
We will be updating you along the way today, every 30 minutes - check back later for LIVE audio reports.
I will be embedded with the V W Baja Toureg Trophy Truck team today, while my colleague Craig Perronne will be on-hand with the Ford SVT Raptor 150 team. Updates as we have them!

At the moment, it looks as though the Johnny Campell Racing bike 1x is in the lead. Robby Bell started the race in Ensenada in seventh, and the team is currently in second. The 6x bike piloted by Ryan Penhall, son of two-time former World Speedway Champion Bruce Penhall, is currently in the lead and might have the edge on the JCR 1x bike, as they started in fifth. We'll update you on the progress.

At the moment, Ryan Penhall on the 6x bike is still in the lead. The bikes are about halfway to checkpoint
