I think everyone would agree that times are hard right now due to the economy. Sponsors are putting less money into racing series', and less racers are travelling long distances for races. I would also assume that most people aren't spending as much money to go to a track and pay to practice every weekend. I would think that right now tracks would be wanting all the riders they can get.
But apparently the mx track in Mesquite NV doesn't need more riders. They are just one more track to eliminate quads from their facility. I went to their track 2-3 times last spring with multiple quads every time and we never heard a word from the track complaining about us. I don't doubt that the hardcore bike riders were still being babies and didnt want us riding there, but when it gets bad enough we usually hear from the track owners/managers. Maybe tell us something like "Go slow in the corners so you dont hurt the ruts." Ive never seen or heard a pro bike rider say " If this track didnt have perfect ruts in every corner I wouldnt ride here". I think only the real beginners struggle without having ruts. But that is a whole nother issue that you dont want to get me started on.
When I showed up on Saturday morning and pulled up to the gate shack apparently I was already a hot topic of discussion while I was waiting in line. My quad was on top of my truck bed so they were preparing to tell me I couldn't ride. I was excited to ride the new track because they re-did the entire thing over their summer break. But I guess over their break they also decided that they don't want any money from quad riders anymore. They also decided to not make people aware of that either. I was on the website and listened to their voicemail before I left and there was nothing about quads not being alllowed. I made them aware of that, and I appreaciate that they let me ride because of that. But they made it clear that I wouldn't be allowed again.
I also thought it funny that the person at the gate told me they were no longer having any quad races either. Hmm... As of right now I already know of two quad events scheduled for their facility. One in just two weeks in fact.
Maybe someone can explain to me what is different about my $30 because I ride on two more wheels?
Younggun95, 2 days ago | FlagI agree that there will always be bike guys that will complain, but it is not all of them. I know plenty of them that dont (the tracks with those riders or owners are the ones that let quads ride.) I think that overall there are the same number of ATV and Bike guys that are bad for all of us, or act like "fools" but unfortunately for quads our overall number of riders is much lower making the "fools" much more visible.
I guess other than just being annoyed of another track cutting quads from their practice schedule, my main point was just that how can they afford to do it at this time. I can't count the number of people that wont practice at somewhere that charges because of the times. I think that is is very fair to say that Mesquites numbers have to be down. If they are still able to run succesfully with the lower numbers then maybe their practice fees are too high, but that is not the issue. The regular practice fee no matter where you go is either $30 or $25. But if that is true, that they are charging way more than they need to run, then obviously they are interested in the money, so once again, why not let quads ride?
There are plenty of ATV riders in the area that are willing to pay to practice. I know that boulder city mx receives atleast 4-5 quads every day of every weekend (thursday, friday, saturday, sunday) because they are the only place close that will allow quads.
There actually only is 1 mx track in Mesquite and you have the correct link (not that I want to advertise anymore for them than I already have though.) Currently there is something on the left side of the home page that states quads are not allowed for practice or racing.
Vtr_Racing, 2 days ago | FlagUnfortunatly, some, not all bike guys like to complain about ATV`s messing up their "ruts" !!! Also, some, not all, quad guys act like fools. This is not to say that bike guys dont act like fools. Yet, the bike guys want you to "vote" to keep public areas open for THEM!!! I will say this, there are more bike guys than ATV`s and that probably sways the track owners thought process.
I dont race at tracks so its not a big problem for me personally. I do see the hypocrisy in all of it. Its an elitist attitude. Tell the track owner where to take his overpriced entry fee and dont use his track and tell as many people as you can. Which track is it? Not like Mesquite is a big place!
There are 2 that I see Mesquite MX Park and Mesquite Raceway.
Mesquite MX Park has NO info about quads allowed or not allowed for practice in general. Ill go out on a limb and says its this place. I se no rules posted on their site. Its does say NO Quads for the Thankgiving race.
